OLD EDWARDS INN AND SPA ANNOUNCES ART WORKSHOP SERIES 2007
IN CONJUNCTION WITH BASCOM-LOUISE FINE ART CENTER IN HIGHLANDS, NC
HIGHLANDS, NC- Old Edwards Hospitality Group is pleased to announce the exciting lineup for the Art Workshop Series 2007. Geared for all levels of artistic experience, the Workshop Series is made possible through a partnership with Bascom Louise Fine Art Center and will feature three renowned artists including: Gary Green, Sandy Webster and Thomas Nash.
Overnight packages are designed to allow guests ample time for relaxing and enjoying all of the fine amenities of the resort while being able to focus on improving technique or learning something new. Packages include all of the traditional Old Edwards amenities including deluxe accommodations at the Inn or The Lodge, gourmet Continental breakfast each morning, Champagne arrival, welcome amenity and evening turndown, and Butler’s Pantry with snacks, fresh fruit and non-alcoholic beverages.

GARY GREENE, Painting with Colored Pencil

In this two-day workshop, Gary Greene will offer instruction on masterful layering and burnishing techniques to create beautiful, realistic pencil paintings without all the muss, fuss and bother of oil or water-based paints.
In addition to being an accomplished fine artist, Greene has been a professional artist since 1967 and is the author of nine North Light publications and star of six video workshops. He has contributed articles to The Artist’s Magazine and his colored pencil paintings have appeared in American Artist and International Artist magazines. Greene is a thirteen-year Signature Member of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) and has taught workshops nationally and internationally since 1985.

SANDY WEBSTER, A New Leaf: Making and Using a Pocket Journal
April 22 ~ 25, 2007
Join Sandy Webster in this two-day workshop to create a special art journal. Each student will make an accordion style book with pockets to house writings, drawings, and mementos of treasured times in Highlands. Sandy will offer instruction in drawing, watercolor technique, color pencil application, and book making. She’ll also provide helpful critiques, inspirational ideas, writing suggestions and more.
Webster currently works in mixed media to produce compositions that tell a story through words, images and objects. She received her BFA from Western Carolina University and her MFA from Vermont College. Her works have been exhibited throughout the US and published in several Lark Publications books including: The Decorated Journal, The Art and Craft of Handmade Books and most recently, 500 Baskets. Sandy has taught, lectured and juried throughout the US, Canada and Australia.

THOMAS NASH, Unleashing Color in your Portrait Painting
May 13 ~ 18, 2007
All levels of artists will benefit from Thomas Nash’s masterful portrait painting techniques. Nash will emphasize dynamic drawing and dramatic use of color in this four-day workshop. Working with live models and manikins, he will also help students formulate a clear, individualized outline for advancing his/her skill and personal style in portraiture.
Nash is an accomplished, nationally recognized portrait painter with pieces in collections throughout the United Sates. His work is featured in boardrooms and official state capitols including the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. He is currently working on a portrait of Atlanta, Georgia’s former Mayor Maynard Jackson for the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
